Secondary school pupils across Northern Ireland are set to benefit from a High-end TV (HETV) careers focused roadshow designed to introduce them to roles in HETV supported by ScreenSkills’ HETV Skills Fund. High-end television is TV production costing £1 million or more per broadcast hour to produce. HETV productions filmed recently in Northern Ireland include Blue Lights, Show Trial and The Woman in the Wall.

The roadshow will visit 8 schools and will run from December 2023 to March 2024. Cinemagic is inviting schools to register to participate. The programme is designed to inspire the next generation to follow careers in HETV especially in Northern Ireland, and to share information about the range of roles available along with the personal skills and qualities needed.

Vicki Ball, HETV First Break and Careers Outreach Manager at ScreenSkills, explained:

“Northern Ireland is a key player in the UK’s screen industries, and it’s important that we invest in the local talent that will help the industry thrive. That’s why we’re working with local people and partners to help inspire the next generation of talent and help them find their pathway into one of the many roles available.”

Laura McCurdy, Cinemagic Project Executive said “We are delighted to work with the ScreenSkills HETV Skills Fund to offer Key Stage 3 secondary school pupils the chance to find out about careers in High-end Television, discover the types of roles that exist and understand the pathways for new entrants.

We are proud to welcome a stellar line-up of industry professionals from a range of disciplines such as Production Co-ordination, Production Design, Location Management, Costume Design to visit schools and help ignite an interest in pupils in this rewarding area of the screen industries.”

Industry professionals will discuss their roles, what a typical week is like in their job, what skills are needed to succeed, and what organisations such as Cinemagic and ScreenSkills can offer to support new entrants starting a career in TV.
